GC round table meeting- As a GC, how to communicate with the global headquarters in crisis management

On May 21, 2019, LGC held the monthly “GC round table meeting” in the conference room of Baxter China headquarters in Shanghai.Baxter is a world-famous medical company and one of the world’s top 500 companies. More than 10 General Counsels of Headquarters of multinational companies in China attended the meeting.

Crisis management was a very important skill for the GC of multinational enterprises in China. In particular, how to communicate with the headquarters after the crisis was a practical problem that almost every GC in China will face.

Mr. Chen Bin, deputy general counsel of Baxter International, presided over this meeting. He invited Mr. Joe Spiegler as the guest speaker. Mr. Spiegler worked for Baxter for eight and a half years. During this period, he worked in Shanghai as the compliance officer of the Asia Pacific region for 18 months, and then returned to the headquarters as the global chief compliance officer for four and a half years. So he understood the cultural differences between China and the United States.

The guests warmly discussed various issues about communication when the crisis occurred. They all felt that this round table is very fruitful and looked forward to more similar high-quality training in the future.
