Joel H. Rothstein is a partner with the international law firm of Paul Hastings LLP and is based in the Beijing and Los Angeles offices of the firm.  As the firm’s longest serving attorney in Asia, he played a leadership role in the launch and expansion of the firm’s market leading Asia real estate and structured finance practices and has also held the position of Chairman of the firm’s Beijing office.

Mr. Rothstein’s practice is global and has a particular emphasis on advising debt and equity investors in cross-border transactions, including representing Asian and European investors and sovereign wealth funds in connection with investing in United States real estate, private equity funds and large scale infrastructure projects. He also frequently advises international financial institutions in structuring and documenting cross-border financing of assets and companies.

In addition to being a lawyer, Mr. Rothstein is also an architect and urban designer. He has previously worked on a number of architecture and urban design projects in diverse locations ranging from Cartegena, Colombia, South America, New York City and Los Angeles.

Mr. Rothstein is a frequent lecturer and author on real estate finance, the private equity industry and urban design and infrastructure development. He has been a guest lecturer on these topics at Harvard University, Georgetown University, Peking University and Tsinghua University.

Mr. Rothstein received his law degree from New York University School of Law where he was the editor of the publication New York University Review of Law and Social Change. He also attended Columbia University where he received a masters degree from the Graduate School of Architecture.
