In 1983, Mr. Song Liping began his studies at China’s National University of Defense Technology, where he obtained his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees in electronics and communications. From 1994 to 1996, Mr. Song pursued his postdoctoral research in electronics and communications at the Beijing Institute of Technology. Mr. Song joined Huawei in 1996 and has since taken managerial positions related to strategic product planning, external cooperation, intellectual property rights, standards research and development, information security, and legal affairs. Under the leadership of Mr. Song, Huawei has filed more than 40,000 patent applications worldwide over the past decade.

Mr. Song has been deeply involved in Huawei’s negotiation and cooperation efforts regarding intellectual property rights and critical projects. Mr. Song has led or participated in a number of projects in which Huawei cooperated with companies such as Nokia, Ericsson, Qualcomm, Motorola, Nortel Networks, and Siemens, along with M&A and JV projects involving Emerson and 3Com. In addition, Mr. Song has led Huawei’s lawsuits against Cisco, Huke, and Motorola. Mr. Song has served as Chair of the Shenzhen Patent Association, Vice Chair of the Patent Protection Association of China, and an expert on China’s Intellectual Property Rights Strategic Advisory Committee. Of particular note, Mr. Song was listed as one of the 50 Most Influential People in the World of Intellectual Property, compiled by the UK magazine Managing IP in 2009, 2010, and 2013. In addition, Mr. Song was selected as one of China’s 10 Most Influential People in Intellectual Property Rights Protection in 2010, the first commendation of its kind in China.
