Teresa Cheng GBS SC JP FICE FCIArb is a Senior Counsel, Chartered Engineer, Chartered Arbitrator and Accredited Mediator. Ms Cheng specialises in areas of law in construction, international commercial disputes and investment arbitration, and is an experienced practitioner in international arbitration and mediation. She is frequently engaged as counsel or arbitrator in complex international commercial disputes.
She is the Chairperson of Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), Past Vice President of the International Council of Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), and Past Vice President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. She is a member of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) panel of Arbitrators, designated by the Chairman of the ICSID Administrative Council. In 2008, she was the first Asian woman elected through a global election as President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). She is also a Council Member of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Committee (CIETAC) and a panel arbitrator of Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). She has sat as a Deputy Judge in the Court of First Instance of the High Court of Hong Kong.
Ms Cheng is a Fellow of King’s College in London, and the Course Director of the International Arbitration and Dispute Settlement Course at the Law School of Tsinghua University in Beijing. Ms Cheng has co-authored numerous books and articles in journals and seminars. Some of her recent publications include “Construction Law and Practice in Hong Kong” and “Arbitration in Hong Kong: A Practical Guide”, published by Sweet & Maxwell, as well as papers in the “International Council for Commercial Arbitration Congress Series”, published by Kluwer Law International.
